March Counselor's Corner:

In March, some of our students will be taking part in state testing. CRT Science for 4th and 8th graders is scheduled for the week of March 11th. Please read the following tips to ensure the students have the best possible testing experience during this week:

1. Start the day off right with a healthy breakfast! Students perform better and feel more awake when they have eaten a healthy breakfast. If there is not time at home to eat, please take advantage of the school breakfast program and eat when you get here!

2. Arrive on time! Please make sure that students arrive on time for the school day. This ensures that they have time to get settled and eat breakfast, if needed, before any of the testing begins.

3. Stay relaxed and confident. Feeling good and having a positive attitude can help students relax. Go into the test with a positive mindset! Take a deep breath (or a few) and do your very best.

We are excited to announce that Canyon Creek School is utilizing a brand new resource, the SOS Signs of Suicide Portal, as a part of our school-wide suicide prevention efforts. Log in to this free educational site for more information on warning signs and risk factors for youth suicide, access useful resources, and to learn more about the key message all students will learn: ACT ( Acknowledge, Care, Tell). You can preview the video your student will watch and take an anonymous online mental health screening on behalf of your child.

To access the mental health resource, visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org and enter:

Kindergarten Round Up

If you have a child, or know someone with a child, who will be 5 years old by September 10th, 2019, please call the school to set up an appointment (406-656-4471).

At the Round Up, the kindergarten teacher will do a brief assessment of your child and you will be asked to fill out enrollment forms.

Please bring an official birth certificate, immunization records, a water or electricity bill with your name and address to verify attendance area, and your child.

Please share this with any families in your neighborhood who have children of age for kindergarten!

Last BoxTops submission for 18-19 year

Great job on our last BoxTops submission! We were able to earn $75.00! This money goes towards supplies in classrooms and field trips! Keep collecting BoxTops, everyone! We can save them for next year! Thank you!

Parking Lot

  1. Watch for pedestrian traffic at all times
  2. If you are dropping off or picking up children, please use the "pickup/drop off lane" next to the sidewalk. Please do not leave your car unattended in the pickup lane and move forward as room allows. If you need to come into the building, use the "visitor parking," not the gym lot or the south end parking lot.
  3. Children need to be dropped off at the north end of the front sidewalk in the morning. Please do not drive into the "gym parking lot." Students will walk around the gym to the playground. (if you arrive after 8:10 am, children may be dropped off at the office doors.)
  4. The bus loop is not available for parent pick up or drop off.

Review of Absence Reasons

Dear Canyon Creek Families,

There has seemed to be some confusion about absences and what is considered an excused absence and what is not. Below are some of the rules we have listed in the handbook regarding absences. Thank you for taking the time to review these.

Reporting Absences:

1. parents are asked to call our attendance hotline prior to 9:00 a.m. or send a note to excuse student absences

2. Absences will not be excused unless the school receives a phone call or note, signed and dated by the parent, stating the reason for the student's absence

Excused Absences:

1. Personal illness

2. Appointments with health professionals

3. Legal appointments

4. Emergency family situations

Calling in a student will either mark it as an excused absence or unexcused absence, based on the reason. Not calling in a student at all will mark the student as truant and will result in you being notified by our automated system.

Hopefully, after reviewing these rules we have cleared up any confusion.
